Our Story

A Family-Owned Geotechnical Firm Built on Doing the Work Right

GeoTed is a family-owned geotechnical and environmental consulting firm based in Southern California. We work with homeowners, buyers, and small development projects — and we've built our practice around one idea: fewer projects, done better.
Every evaluation we deliver is handled directly by a licensed professional. No handoffs, no junior staff filling in the gaps. When you hire GeoTed, you get us — from the first call to the final report.

Meet the Geologist Behind the Work

GeoTed was founded by Ted, a California Certified Engineering Geologist and Professional Geologist with over a decade of hands-on experience across Southern California.

Before starting GeoTed, Ted spent years in the field as a staff engineering geologist — logging borings, directing subsurface exploration programs, evaluating slope stability, and supporting residential and commercial projects from the ground up. He has served as a Deputy Grading Inspector for the City of Los Angeles and holds certifications as an ICC Special Inspector for Soils and an NRPP Radon Measurement Professional.

He started GeoTed because he wanted to do the work differently — smaller, more focused, and more useful to the clients who actually needed it: homeowners, buyers, and small developers who weren't being well-served by firms built for large projects.

When you hire GeoTed, Ted is the one who shows up to your site, writes your report, and answers when you call.

Our Core Values

Safety
We protect our clients, our team, and every site we work on. Sound geotechnical practice isn't just about compliance — it's about making sure people and property stay safe long after we leave.
Quality Over Quantity
We take on the projects we can do well. That means keeping our workload manageable so every client gets our full attention — not a report assembled under deadline pressure.
Straight Talk
We write reports that are clear and readable, not padded with technical language designed to cover our bases. If there's a problem, we tell you plainly. If there isn't one, we tell you that too.

We Go to the Site. Every Time.

Our approach is grounded in direct field observation. We don't rely solely on regional databases or assumptions — we visit the property, document actual conditions, and evaluate soil behavior, slope geometry, drainage, and prior land disturbance in person.

This hands-on approach lets us catch things that a desk review misses and give you recommendations that are specific to your site, not generic to your zip code.

We regularly work with homeowners, buyers, builders, architects, and real estate professionals throughout the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

Clear Findings. Practical Next Steps.

Our findings are presented in plain language designed to help you make decisions — whether you're in escrow, planning a project, or working through a permitting process.

We support clients at every stage:

  • Pre-purchase and escrow geological inspections

  • Foundation excavation observations
  • ADU and small development geotechnical support
  • Environmental site assessments (Phase I & II)
